Foundation Grants

Terms on which the grants are given:-

Women graduates from Britain and overseas are eligible to apply

They must be studying or intend to study in the academic year 2008/2009 in Great Britain at postgraduate or post doctoral level

Any subject or field of study will be considered

There is no upper age limit

For the academic year 2008/2009 grants will only be given for the final fee paying year of PhD or D.Phil or for the writing up period.

Evidence of ability to pay fees is required

Students reading for part-time postgraduate degrees will be eligible from their third year  onwards

The Grants will be a contribution only towards the living expenses of one year’s academic study or research

The amount of the Foundation Grant will be decided by FfWG, but normally will not exceed £4,000.  All our grants are offered on a needs basis and therefore not all grants will be for £4,000.   Closing date for applications: 14 May 2008 .  The Foundation’s decision is final and no subsequent correspondence will be entered into.

Grant holders must submit a written report on their year’s work within six weeks of the end of their academic year.

HOW TO APPLY

Application forms for a Foundation Grant may be obtained by e-mail only from The Grants Administrator at:- jean.c@blueyonder.co.uk

POINTS TO BE NOTED

Please note that the closing date for the return of application forms is 14 May 2008 .

The application form must be completed on a computer and returned by e-mail to jean.c@blueyonder.co.uk  A hard signed copy of your application must be returned to the Grants Administrator at the address on the form.

Before returning the completed form answer all questions on the form, do not enter ‘see C.V.’

Ensure you have included:-  

Evidence of acceptance for the relevant year

A brief summary of your thesis (one side of A4), if applicable

A copy of your first degree

A cheque, made payable to BFWG Charitable Foundation, for the administration fee of £12 must be returned by post together with a hard signed copy of the application form and all enclosures.

 

YOUR APPLICATION FORM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT ALL OF THE ABOVE

The application form must be completed on a computer and returned by e-mail to jean.c@blueyonder.co.uk. The hard signed copy together with all enclosures should be sent by post to the address on the form.

Do not send publications, audio tapes, video tapes, slides or original certificates

Do not stick pieces of paper to the application form

Do not use staples for attaching enclosures

Obtain the consent of your referees before submitting their names and draw their attention to the closing date for your application. ONE OF YOUR REFERENCE FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED BY YOUR TUTOR OR SUPERVISOR Without both references applications will not be considered

It is your responsibility to ensure your references arrive at our office before the closing date of 14 May 2008 .

FfWG would like to thank you for taking the time to complete your application form.  FfWG strives to maximize the amount of funds used to make grants and in order to do so you will only be informed of the result of your application if you are successful.  If you have not heard from FfWG by 31 August 2008 then you should assume that you have been unsuccessful.  You may telephone for the result if you are unsure.  

You can be assured that all applications meeting the stated criteria will be considered sympathetically but remember that FfWG’s funds are limited and not all who apply will receive a grant.

Please be aware that if you are successful with your application form you will be required to supply proof of identity before any payment will be made.  This can be one of the following:-

Copy of identity page of your Passport

Copy of a full EU/UK Driving Licence

    Student Card from a British University
